A note to all classes: If you need flowers, musical instruments, swirly designs, sports equipment, mini pics of day of the dead skulls....anything else for your retablo or nicho, click the link below!!! docs.google.com/document/d/17iAlssL3yvdeHMXcK1FZP1x6KIkr1lmPZc76coqijUk/edit?usp=sharing Requirements for ALL projects: -MUST BE COLORFUL, 3-Dimensional, and personal -You must have a frame around your retablo or nicho. Your frame should include traditional swirl designs and flowers. Typically, nichos have an elaborate frame on top while retablos usually have doors that are decorated on the inside. (See examples in the google doc and below) -6th/7th: (doing retablos) You must have at least 3 skeletons (or more) doing some kind of action. They should be posed and should stand up (using a popsicle stick and clay). Each skeleton should have something distinctive that represents that person (a piece of clothing, a musical instrument, a favorite food, etc- something personal) The skeletons should represent your family members and should be doing something that's important to your family, as a whole, or to that person, as an individual.) You may also include pets. I put some pets in the google doc. You can also draw an outline of the pet, color it black, and then use white out or paint to draw in a few bones. -7th: (doing nichos) Your skeleton face should be decorated like a traditional Day of the Dead face (examples on google doc). Your nicho should also have things in it and/or on the frame that represent who you are as a person. -The outside of the box should be covered and decorated (with flowers, swirls, other day of the dead faces, etc.) In fact, THERE SHOULD BE NO BOX SHOWING!!! -You must be able to describe what's happening, who the people are, why they're important to you, what they like to do, etc. Click through the 2 slideshows below for some examples of nichos and retablos. Pay particular attention to the frames and how they're decorated. Traditional Nichos: usually show 1 person or something that was important to 1 person; have an elaborate, colorful frame; the top of the frame is usually scalloped; the outside of the frames has flowers, swirls and other things that are important to that personTraditional Retablos: usually has decorated doors; have multiple people; often represent multiple scenes; very colorful, playful and comical |
